Aesthetically, your eyes are one of the most important areas of your face. They connect you to others and convey your emotions more than any other physical feature. Many people spend valuable time and money on makeup to enhance their eyes. However, makeup may not last throughout the day and might not provide the preferred level of enhancement. There are now three semi-permanent treatments that can significantly improve the look of your eye area. Read on to find out which one is best for your needs.
Eyelash and Eyebrow Tinting
During tinting, a semi-permanent or permanent dye is applied to the eyebrows and eyelashes. A custom dye is first blended and is then spread onto the hairs by a technician. This process typically takes 15 minutes and the results last from four to six weeks. These treatments do not add length or volume, but they will darken and define existing hairs. While there are kits for home use, it is best to go to a reputable esthetician for tinting. This will ensure your safety and lead to better results.
Like tinting, eyelash extensions are semi-permanent and available via salons. During a one- to two-hour appointment, tweezers and semi-permanent glue are used to attach individual extensions to each of your natural lashes. The eyelash extension kits come in silk, mink, faux mink and other synthetic fibers. Salons also typically offer clients a wide variety of lash lengths, colors and curl patterns. The full effects normally last for up to a month, when the eyelashes to which the extensions are attached naturally fall out. An appointment can then be made to apply extensions to new growth.
While the treatments described above are conducted by estheticians at salons, Latisse is a prescription serum that requires a visit to your doctor. The product is applied to the upper lash line and will cause the lashes to become longer and thicker. Full results are usually achieved after about two months of daily use, but your lashes will eventually return to their original state if you stop using the product. It may be possible to combine the use of Latisse with either of the two other procedures described here, but you should inform the prescribing doctor of your wish to do so.
If you are seeking a way to perfect the look of your eyebrows and eyelashes, there are several semi-permanent solutions available. These all last longer and provide better results than makeup. While some maintenance will be required with any of the treatments, they may allow you to permanently say goodbye to your mascara and eyebrow pencils!
