5 Ways to Lighten and Highlight Your Hair Naturally

There is always that excitement that comes with the idea of highlighting one’s hair. Some people are in so much haste that they rarely take time to examine the condition of their hair before applying bleaching agents. The damage that comes after bleaching could be irreversible hence great caution should be taken before the process.

The good news is; you don’t have to damage your hair anymore! There are natural ways of breaching your hair at home using home-based products. This means that you have a chance to save an extra penny since salon is no longer necessary. One can decide to bleach either short or long hair. The size of the hair doesn’t matter. If one decides to highlight short hair, they should use fast feed clippers for an accurate cut.

To get that perfect sun-kissed look; all you have is to prepare the hair two or so weeks prior. Preparation involves oiling your hair once or twice per week to moisturize your hair. After the two weeks, the following methods can be applied.

1. Lemon Juice

The process involves mixing about a cup of fresh juice with a ¼ cup of warm water into a spray bottle. The next step is spraying the hair until it is thoroughly wet. After two or so hours, one can wash the hair and later condition it.

Lemon is one of the best natural bleaching agents. For the bleaching to occur, warmth must be available. Warmth is known for lifting the skin cuticle hence exposing the hair shaft. The lemon juice is thus given the leeway to the shaft where the bleaching begins. However, one does not get the desired results instantly. You have to repeat the process once per week until the desired look is obtained. However, never apply lemon more than once per week. This is to avoid weakening the hair.

2. Honey and Vinegar

Honey and vinegar are both known to have bleaching properties. When the two are used together, they give the desired shade though not a deep one. Just like lemon, this mixture should be applied once per week until the desired look is achieved.

One requires one cup of apple cider vinegar, half a cup of honey and a tablespoon of coconut oil. The mixture is applied to the hair then covered in a towel for the night. The hair is then shampooed and later conditioned.

3. Peroxide

In this, one is required to dilute hydrogen peroxide with distilled water in equal proportions. Apply on the hair strands using a cotton ball. The advantage of using peroxide is that it will lighten the hair quickly. One is required to wash out the chemical once you get to your desired shade. The drying effect that commercial chemicals have on hair is not present when peroxide is used hence a popular bleach.

4. Chamomile Tea

This involves cooling off a very strong cup of chamomile tea and highlighting strands of hair as desired. One can also pour on the whole head. The next step is sitting in the sun for about half an hour and later washing off.

5. Henna

This is one of the most popular hair highlighters. For most shades of hairs, henna is known to darken it; but for the dark hair, it leaves behind red blemishes. Preparation involves mixing about three tablespoons of henna with half a cup of boiling water and leaving it overnight. Once applied, it can be washed after three hours and styled.

You should know that everyone has different hair texture and type. Everyone has a different absorption or losing rate of the colour. Water also used matters. In some places, the water is slightly acidic. This means that the results will vary from one individual to the other. However, on should experiment on the vast varieties of bleaches and highlighters until they get the best.
