The Many Different Types of Wallets

If you’ve ever needed a place to hold personal information, credit cards or IDs, then you’ve likely invested in some type of wallet before. These cardholders, or “porte carte”, are not only beneficial for keeping your important info/items on hand, but they also can be very stylish! There are lots of different types of wallets out there to suit anyone’s tastes in both looks and functionality. Here are some of the most popular types of wallets on the market today.

Bifold Wallet

Maybe the single most common type of wallet on the market (and has been for decades) is the bifold wallet. Bifold, means it folds in half so there is only one crease in the wallet. This type of wallet will lay pretty flat, so it’s a natural fit for anyone wanting to keep their wallet stored in the back pocket of their pants. Most bifold wallets include a spot for credit cards, your Driver’s license or ID, a coin pocket or compartment to put dollar bills in, and then some open pockets that may be behind the main sections already listed. As far as styles go, these bifold wallets can be made in lots of different materials like leather and cloth and come in all sorts of styles, colors and designs.

Trifold Wallet

The trifold wallet is exactly what the name implies – it is separated into thirds, with two creases in the wallet. One of the thirds folds over the other, so it becomes quite compact when put away. The main difference with the trifold wallet to the bifold aside from the third fold, is just that it has more space to hold more items, so it tends to be a little bulkier in size. Similar to the bifold wallet, the trifold also has a spot for your ID, spots for credit cards and other cards, a bill compartment that’s usually behind the card slots, and may even include a spot where it would hold pictures.

Zipper Wallet

The zipper wallet is unique in that it’s typically a bifold wallet but has an outer zipper that closes up the wallet nicely so nothing can fall out. Because the zipper takes up some space, the amount of room inside the wallet to hold cards, money and IDs may be slightly limited. On one hand, this is nice because then you’re forced to only keep the essentials in your wallet instead of filling it so full it’s spilling out the sides.
